On June 6, 2025 a majority of nearly 7,000 delegates voted to pass New Business Item #39 (NBI 39) onto the NEA Executive Committee for a decision. NBI 39 states: “The NEA will not use, endorse, or publicize any materials from the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), such as its curricular materials or its statistics. The NEA will not participate in ADL programs or publicize ADL professional development offerings.”

We are deeply disappointed that a majority of delegates at the NEA Representative Assembly chose to adopt an NBI singling out the ADL, a respected civil rights organization that has long stood at the forefront of combating hate, protecting students’ rights, and fostering safer, more inclusive schools. This decision serves as a symbolic rejection of those very efforts.

At a time when incidents of hate and bias are on the rise across the country, this action sends a troubling message of exclusion and undermines our shared goal of ensuring every student feels safe and supported. We hope the NEA Executive Committee will carefully consider the impact of this measure on marginalized communities and ultimately reject it. The NEA Jewish Affairs Caucus will continue to utilize ADL resources and stand firmly for unity, mutual respect, and educational environments free from bias and discrimination.

National Education Association (NEA) members form caucuses around issues of common concern. The resulting caucus is not an NEA entity and does not speak for or reflect views of NEA. Any NEA member who is part of the group represented by the caucus, or who supports its goals, is eligible to join.
